After a successful run last year, Codecademy wants to help more people learn how to code this 2012.

Codecademy is a free online site that teaches programming in a fun and interactive way.

As of this writing, more than 16,000 users have already signed up with Code Year, a landing page that encourages you to learn how to code, asks for your email address, and promises to send you programming lessons to your inbox each week.

Codecademy’s Code Year campaign is supported by YCombinator, Techstars and Girl Develop It.

Zach Sims, co-founder of Codecademy, says that their lessons begins with Javascript programming then moving on to Ruby and Python. Sims is hoping that by the end of this year, the curriculum will produce new developers.

“People should make their New Year’s resolution something that can improve their quality of life,” Sims said.

“We’re giving them new skills and actually helping them keep their resolutions. This is just the beginning of our big effort to get lots of people to recognize the importance of learning to code. I think 2012 can be the year we finally get programming to start entering the mainstream.”

With new startups sprouting from left to right, I think that having a programming knowledge can greatly help people find new careers in this fast growing tech industry.

I already signed up. How about you?
